I never set out to start a candle company, I set out to find peace, an escape from burn out and my then reality. After 24 years of serving as a Police Officer, I was burnt out and broken, life demanded that I slow down, something that was alien to me. In the uncomfortable stillness that followed, I began pouring candles, not for a business, but for healing, a mindfulness practice that required a slower pace and a new kind of patience.

What began as therapy became a calling. In the quiet moments of blending scents and pouring wax, I was curating custom blended aromatherapy candles to help my ailments and alleviate symptoms. Slowly I began to smile again… and laugh again too. Somewhere between the spills, the scent tests, and the dodgy labels, the spark began to return.

Today, West Country Candle Co. is a reflection of that journey, a celebration of slow living, rustic luxury, and the wild beauty of the West Country. Each candle is hand-poured in small batches, inspired by our moorlands, coastlines, folklore, and the wonderful old dialect that makes this region so full of character.

Our candles are made to make you smile, you’ll read the name, smile again, then smell it and want them all.

We might be about mindful living and soft light, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Life’s better with a bit of laughter (and a really good candle).
